Belize lies in the east coast of Central America and is bordered to the
north by Mexico, the west and south by Guatemala and the east by the
Caribbean Sea. It has a parliamentary system of government and is also
a member of the Commonwealth Countries. The country was colonized
by England in 1862 and attained self-government in 1964; through its
local political transition, it achieved independence in 1981 under the
leadership of its first Prime Minister George Cadle Price. Belize is the
only speaking country in Central America and has a standard monitory
exchange of Bz$2.00 to US$1.00
